• Summary: The complainant requested information regarding the British Broadcasting Corporation’s (the “BBC”’s) decision not to broadcast the Disasters Emergency Committee’s (DEC) appeal for Gaza. The BBC refused to provide the information claiming that it was outside the scope of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the “Act”) because it was held for the purposes of journalism, art or literature. It was stated by the BBC that the information was used for creating its output and was closely associated with creative activities. The Commissioner is satisfied that the information in question is held for the purposes of journalism, art or literature. Therefore the BBC was not required to comply with Parts I to V of the Act in relation to this request.
