The extant charter trustees were established under three pieces of legislation:

• Section 246 of the Local Government Act 1972, which established:
  • the Charter Trustees of the Town of Bexhill-on-Sea
  • the Charter Trustees of the Town of East Retford
  • the Charter Trustees of the Town of Grantham
  • the Charter Trustees of the Town of High Wycombe
  • the Charter Trustees of the Town of Kidderminster
  • the Charter Trustees of the Town of Lowestoft
  • the Charter Trustees of the Town of Mansfield
  • the Charter Trustees of the Town of Margate
  • the Charter Trustees of the Town of Worksop
• Regulation 3 of SI 1996/263, which established:
  • the Charter Trustees of the City of Bath
  • the Charter Trustees of the Town of Cleethorpes
  • the Charter Trustees of the Town of Great Grimsby
  • the Charter Trustees of the Town of Scunthorpe
• Article 8 of SI 2009/837, which established:
  • The Charter Trustees for the City of Chester
  • The Charter Trustees for Ellesmere Port
  • The Charter Trustees for Crewe
  • The Charter Trustees for Macclesfield
  • The Charter Trustees for the City of Durham

Only the first set seems to be covered by paragraph 13 of FOIA Schedule I - Public Authorities.
