Schedule 1 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 refers to "A joint board the constituent members of which consist of any of the public authorities described in paragraphs 8, 9, 10, 12, 15, 16, 20 to 31, 57 and 58."

We are not totally sure what this means. The Act does not apply in Scotland where the term "joint board" is used frequently. There are different Acts of Parliament under which joint boards can be established[1]

Libraries and museums

Section 5 of the Public Libraries and Museums Act 1964 refers to "joint boards".

Upper Norwood Joint Library claims to be the only independent, jointly funded library in the UK[2][3]

Public Health

Joint boards set up under section 6 of the Public Health Act 1936.
